0.2A [UNFINISHED] - links

Some things aren't finished or may even be missing. For certain, 3rd bounty is not finished. Since it's not finished, no one is being charged for this. I think I will be doing this more often, also I need 1-2 days of break because I'm tired.

A little something for Halloween.

I didn't plan on doing anything for Halloween, but in the end decided it's not that bad of an idea. It's not much, just a fast image.

Update is being made, just as progress is visible on roadmap, it's still more than few days away, there is still tons of stitching everything together. Considering today's date, seems like this month is not the one, sigh...

I am back.

Stomach flu sucks, don't recommend.

Anyway, I am back on track. Let me give more detailed update. Added one extra ecchi scene that I started sketching today. Just a basic "let me touch you everywhere with excuse of that being a guard's work". It won't have too much in terms of drawing, but will consider different outfits, not sure about skirt flip but I will consider it. Just like rest of smaller scenes.

 About hunting/bounty quests and mob sex scenes. No clue if I already talked about it, can't remember, will assume I did not. Only those quests will have some sex scenes upon failure/success, normal fights will not have it due to fact that with some help and brainstorming I now have an idea how to deal with problem of: "get scene only after losing a fight" (thanks JJATH for helping with that).
In case of defeat - defeat sex scene
In case of win - Rose will simply imagine what would happen and narrate everything.
Both versions will be unlocked after the quest since those aren't repeatable. I think it's a very good balance to get a scene and not force player to lose on purpose (which I personally hate). Those scenes won't be long or have much images, but I will still take into account shame level (mainly for defeat one).
This and story-related problem are reasons why there won't be a scene after normal fights. Also, will help in time saving due to less elements to draw.
Dunno about sex attacks during battle, since all will need to consider damaged versions of clothes and armors that won't give possibility for a titty squeeze until broken. Not to mention, it's a mini scene so takes time and seeing it too often gets annoying (maybe I will reserve those for certain bosses/mini-bosses). For now I would say there won't be any, if I add them, I will add them.

Last thing, scene unlocker will stay until game is finished, same for cheats, but I already modified how cheats work with an option to turn them off and stats will go back to how those were (saving values gained during normal events). Should be good enough for people who want to unlock higher tier scenes and then rollback cheated values to continue with save in next update.

Patreon reorganization - Why?

Oh boy, that's a big change for this page, ain't it?

I guess there are some questions related to "why?". It's a matter of principles and personal views. When I was first creating this patreon page, I mainly followed what other people did, with few changes as I didn't like some ideas. Later on there were more changes to this page due to different circumstances (damn deadlines xD). However, lately I had some contact with... Let's call it "Adult Game Dev Community" and I was... Disappointed is a good word to use. Anyone can do things however they want, doesn't mean I have to agree with such model and I do not. I want to stay as far away from that as I can, thus the changes on patreon page and how things are done.

This is basically it, I want to stay away from all of that and focus on my game instead of worrying which pledge tier will be better for gaining patrons and how to promote to gain as much support as possible. Sadly, that's mainly what they are talking about between themselves, not interested, here is a hard line and I am not going nowhere that.
  • Pledges have been removed then added again exactly same for each tier. (this may have screwed few things, should have edited those xD) 
  • Posts that are hidden behind a paywall will be on my dev blog, due to NSFW. 
  • During game release, there is no waiting time, free means free. 
  • Support comes in different forms, monetary one, while helping a lot, isn't the only way. 
Last note, for few more months I can continue working full time on Petals of Rose. If monetary support gets high enough, it will stay that way, if not, I will simply have less time to work on this.

Roadmap + 0.1.4c reupload.

Let me start with reupload first. This is just 0.1.4c with applied hotfix, because... I can't be answering same thing regarding bugs all the time. There isn't anything more to it.

Now, the roadmap. On the menu above you will see a link to new page. What it is is basically progress bar to show where on the next update I am right now. Of course, everything is simplified to avoid spoilers. Two dates are basically for ability to tell time between status updates. I will be updating it everyday or every two days.

Before overall progress bar will reach 100%, I will make additional patreon post with a date to not surprise anyone with a patreon payment right out of the blue.
Some things on that roadmap may be changed if development will require (less/more maps or stuff like that). Right now everything is set to zero and tasks that are finished were not included.

I tried to make it in simple, visual way, hope it will help with estimation where upgrade is atm. My judgement on planned deadline would be end of month. My judgment on the matter is generally shit, so we will see xD

Map of the in-game world.

Since I dropped it on discord, I will post it here too.
This is the map of the Rieat (which means pretty much "Earth" in some I-just-made-it-up-but-not-really-right-now ancient language).
One with borders, other without any. No important places/cities marked on both maps.

This is also pretty much what I am using to build in game map from tilesets.
I may spend some extra time and refine this map sketch even more (I had to look at so many maps and read a little bit about geology to at least try getting it right, so more of that won't hurt xD).
And a reason to get it looking much better would be to add in-game item called just "map" that would show map image with extra pointer telling player where Rose exactly is at each point. Just a little extra that is not needed at this very moment, but since I was fixing original map sketch to get a good frame for map building, I decided to share this anyway.

 No new content in-game, this build is like 0.1.4b, so mainly fixing issues.
 NOTE: Since I am forced to move image files manually, if there is something missing, let me know as there is a huge chance I missed something.

0.1.4

  I am fully aware that planned version for this release was 0.1.5. But as version is tightly tied to story progression, due to amount of work I had to do for battle system (mostly drawing related) I had to cut some elements off and then add some story parts so it "feels" ok. Since this part of the story is pretty much where things kick off, I had to make sure everything is set up. And yes, technically there is more reading than gameplay, so to counter this I added few mini games for one part, battle to show how it ticks and some choices (one affects story in a great deal).
  Next update hopefully will be at version 0.2 and as scenes generally are faster to make, it shouldn't be as bad as it was this time (Only 20 days of slip... ffs).

Since some people may wonder why it's so silent in terms of updates. Updating every single page is taking too much time so I limited it down to discord/patreon. I will drop news everywhere each time new release is there because promotion and shit like that. In case you have an issue like this, download hotfix, even if your version is 1.0.1 (it's such a small thing, I am not going to add it to changelog, this will suffice).

Annoying, but have some images :P

What's annoying? Managing all those extra sites where I posted my project...
Maybe I should just keep blog/patreon/discord up to date... Maybe.

Anyway, before images, here is actual battle plan of things needed to be finished before I can continue with story:
  • Battle poses: 
    • Default standing pose
    • Magical attack
    • Getting hit pose.
  • Weapons and clothes for those three poses.
  • Damaged version of clothes for dialogue/battle
  • Modifying RPGMaker battle system so it suits needs of the game.
  • New clothes/weapons (for battle/dialogue)
Battle poses for attack with/without weapon are done.
Also  I am thinking that default standing pose should be somewhat defense-like looking, so it covers player using defense option (anyone even uses that or it's just me being offensive most of time? :P). Another thing, I will probably make custom images for very special attacks. Before anyone asks, yes, I did consider trying to make simple animated scenes, but it will take so much time - it's not worth it. Maybe if whole project wasn't on my shoulders then it would be a different talk - right now? No way.

Keep in mind that I did not test  it on those systems. It's an option in RPG Maker to release game for those (as well as for Android/iOS), so I used it.
If you have some issues, let me now. I may install those OSes (probably Ubuntu for Linux distro) either normally or as a virtual machine and check how it works.

Small something

Yey, finally finished drawing title screen...
And then I overdid it and made a fucking intro, ffs...


Yeah, shit quality video, looks way better normally.
But now, since I did what I needed, which was:
Redo whole fucking demo, add something extra to it, remove stuff that was either "meh" or I am saving for later part in the game, redo/fix other things and make new title screen.

Finally, this took way too fucking long, I am overdoing it with little details and stuff.
Now, would be nice to figure out that patreon thingy because that's one of the things I still didn't gave two fucks about, but finishing it just by relying on my savings is delusional, so support is needed...
And I would rather continue working on this as it's shitload of fun and I want to finish it asap, hoping that people will enjoy playing it as much as I am enjoying making it :P

Small update on this.

So I am done with all events, fixed caching in recollection room and added waitress event to it too.
But I also added extra room to recollection. It shows all possible routes for story event, which one player took and after the event: summary of whole route.
Summary doesn't spoil other routes and route can be viewed on the go (do sub-event, save-> load, do sub-event differently and save). As it's saved globally, just like sex events, progress/summary(if unlocked) can be viewed at any time.
Only issue is that I have to write summary for all combinations and there are total of 20 of those xD
Well, as soon as I am done with it, I will drop link to finished demo. :D

6.31 posted.

There is 6.3 version and 6.31 update to it.

At this point this is what needs to be done:

  • Complete waitress event.
  • Fix recollection room so it's properly caching images.
  • Populate village with NPCs  DONE
  • Add small, missing events    DONE
Also, I think I will be updating after each time I am done with next tier of waitress event until it's finished. Also, at that point demo will be complete.
May take a while longer as I am adding extra whole scene to it, so I am in the process of drawing it atm.

Hotfix v2 for version 6.2

Updated hotfix as it didn't have all needed files. Now it should work. (Thanks Mr NunSense )
6.21 didn't had those issues so no update here.

Also, a note, if you have problems with game taking a lot of space in memory over time, let me know. I did try my best to keep it low, but it may still go up to 1-1.2GB... though, it should clean itself much faster. And I can't exactly drop idea of pre-caching images, as they lag as fuck without that, to the point where Rose can be seen without clothes in dialogues for split of a second, because her image is composed of a lot of layers (then add multiple poses to that).

This version should be easier on memory as image cache cleanup is much more aggressive.

Where the fuck is it!?

I bet that's the question now.
So? Did I fuck something up? Is it broken and not working because of my upgrading of demo?
All of the above...
But, there are few people helping me with this at the moment, so the demo got tested to a certain point (Thanks guys, that is a great help!).
So it seems so far other than events (to a certain point now), everything works fine.
Also, just as a notice, rmmv could use something so I can quickly search inside events, because scrolling through all of this is just... Tedious won't describe it...
